Dental Crowns & Bridges Post-Op Care

After you receive a dental crown or bridge, avoid eating for at least two hours or until the anesthesia has worn off.

If you have a temporary crown or bridge, take special care until your permanent restoration is ready. Avoid sticky foods like gum or caramel, as they can loosen the temporary restoration. Brush normally, but pull floss through rather than lifting to avoid dislodging it. If the crown comes off, slip it back in place and contact our office for re-cementing.

Sensitivity to hot or cold foods is normal for a few days. A mild pain reliever or a warm saltwater rinse can help. After your final crown is placed, continue regular brushing and flossing. Contact us if your bite feels uneven.

Dental Implant Post-Op Care

After your dental implant surgery, follow specific aftercare instructions to promote healing.

In the first 24 hours, avoid hot foods/drinks, rinsing, spitting, or using straws. Stick to a soft diet, and avoid hard or crunchy foods. Cold, soft foods like yogurt or applesauce are ideal during this time.

Swelling or bruising may peak after 48 hours. Apply an ice pack to your cheek for 15-minute intervals. Use non-aspirin pain relievers like ibuprofen and take prescribed antibiotics as directed.

For oral hygiene, carefully brush around the area without touching the implant site. Begin gentle warm saltwater rinses 24 hours after surgery. Avoid using a Waterpik® or other oral irrigators until cleared by our dentists.

Dentures Post-Op Care

New dentures can feel unusual initially, so allow time for adjustment.

Clean dentures after each meal with a soft brush and mild cleaning solution. Remove for at least six hours daily, ideally overnight, storing in water. Use a denture cleaning solution weekly. Contact our office if you experience any discomfort.

Tooth Extractions Post-Op Care

The initial healing process typically takes one to two weeks.

After extraction, avoid eating for at least two hours or until anesthesia wears off. Use an ice pack to reduce swelling. Avoid touching the site, using straws, smoking, and strenuous activities for 24 hours.

Contact our office if pain or swelling persists beyond two days.

Dental Fillings Post-Op Care

Avoid eating for at least two hours or until the anesthetic effect subsides.

Sensitivity to hot or cold may persist for a few days. Avoid extremes in temperature, use mild pain relievers if needed, and rinse with warm saltwater if gums are sore.

Dental Veneers Post-Op Care

Avoid eating for about two hours or until anesthesia wears off. Expect some sensitivity, especially to cold temperatures.

If you have temporary veneers, avoid sticky foods and floss gently. If a temporary comes off, please contact us. After final placement, resume regular brushing and flossing.

Gum Surgery Post-Op Care

Avoid eating for about three hours post-treatment, then stick to a soft diet for two to three days. Avoid alcohol, carbonated drinks, and hard foods.

Mild bleeding and oozing are normal for up to 48 hours. Control bleeding with a moist gauze pad or tea bag. Contact our office if bleeding persists.

Scaling & Root Planing Post-Op Care

In the first 24 hours, avoid eating for at least two hours. Refrain from vigorous exercise, smoking, and extreme temperature foods.

Use a non-aspirin pain reliever if needed and rinse with warm saltwater three times daily.

Root Canal Treatment Post-Op Care

Avoid eating for at least two hours or until anesthesia wears off. Avoid hard and chewy foods for a few days.

Take prescribed medications as directed and contact us if you experience tenderness or swelling.

Teeth Whitening Post-Op Care

Avoid staining foods and beverages for 48 hours post-whitening.

Maintain good oral hygiene and follow up with regular dental appointments. Some sensitivity may occur, but it should subside within a day.
